Unique and beautiful honeymoon destination

The Most Unique & Beautiful Honeymoon Destinations in the U.S.

So, you’ve said your “I do’s,” survived the bouquet toss, and managed to avoid getting cake smashed in your face (or maybe you didn’t—either way, respect). Now, it’s time for the honeymoon! But where do you go? Sure, Paris and the Maldives are great, but why hop on a 10-hour flight when you have jaw-dropping honeymoon destinations right here in the U.S.? Grab your partner, pack your cutest travel outfits, and let’s dive into some of the most unique and stunning honeymoon spots without needing a passport!

Maui, Hawaii – Classic, but Never Basic, a Beautiful Honeymoon Destination

Hawaii is a popular choice for a reason, and Maui stands out with its stunning beaches, breathtaking waterfalls, and romantic ambiance that could make even a Nicholas Sparks novel envious.

Take a sunrise trip to Haleakalā – Experience the sun rising above the clouds like a real-life fairy tale. It’s worth it! Jill and I have seen the sunrise from here three times, which is always a highlight of the trip. It feels magical, and you have never seen anything like it until you do, and then you will never forget about it.  Afterwards drive down to the lavander farm and have a great cup of coffee with a lavender blueberry scone.

Go snorkeling at Molokini Crater – Because nothing says romance like swimming with sea turtles. Now, this is just one popular location. Several places around the island are great for snorkeling; in most areas, you can go right from the beach! Look up Black Rock. It is incredible, and there is a fantastic beach there, too.

    Road To Hana

    – A winding road full of waterfalls, scenic views, and possibly a little carsickness (worth it, though). This will be a highlight of your trip. You can’t go to Maui and not go to Hana. Most people do the round-trip drive in one day. Jill and I are not most people, though. Do what we do and book a room in Hana for the night. That way, you can take your time and enjoy the scenery. Also, Hanna is terrific at night. It’s quiet, a beautiful stargazing area, and a relaxing place to hold your bride. This is the quieter side of the island and the lush, more jungle side of the island. Gorgeous waterfalls are there right now, waiting for you.

    Extra Tips:

If you like to hike, then do yourself a favor and drive a little way past Hana to the “Seven Sacred Pools” area (that’s what it is called; the locals will tell you the name was a tourist gimmick. However, it is beautiful). Once you are there, check out the pools, but the real reason we have brought you over here is to take the hike to the waterfall. It is so worth the time and effort. The trail will take you alongside a rushing river and a bamboo forest. It is not the kind of bamboo you might find back at home at the person’s house on your street who loves to practice their Zen in the garden, but bamboo that is a foot in diameter and 60 feet tall. It sounds like a great forest of wind chimes when the wind blows.

Undeniably, this is a truly magical place!

Photography Tip: Capture golden hour beach photos with the waves in the background. Bonus points if you get matching leis!

Now, all that being said, we love Maui, but the island closest to our hearts is Kauai, The Garden Isle, specifically the North Shore part of Kauai. Oh, Beloved Hanalei, we can’t wait to see you again. However, I will save that one for a whole blog of its own.

Sedona, Arizona – Red Rocks & Romance

Sedona is the spot if you and your partner love adventure (or just incredible Instagram photos). This desert dreamland is famous for the following:

Epic hikes – Think Cathedral Rock or Devil’s Bridge for breathtaking views.

Stargazing – With minimal light pollution, the night sky is next-level romantic.

Relaxing spa days – After all that hiking, you deserve a couples’ massage!

Photography Tip: Schedule a golden hour photoshoot against the red rock formations. The contrast of blue skies and fiery cliffs is pure magic.

Charleston, South Carolina – Southern Charm & Cozy Vibes

Charleston is perfect for couples who love Cobbled streets, pastel-colored houses, and a laid-back, romantic atmosphere. You’ll love:

Stroll through Rainbow Row – A historic street with colorful homes and charm for days.

Take a horse-drawn carriage ride – Because why not feel like royalty on your honeymoon?

Eating all the Southern food – Shrimp and grits, fried chicken, biscuits—say yes.

Perfect Date Idea: Walk around Old Charleston for a little while and grab dinner at one of the many excellent restaurants in Charleston. Go seafood! Then take a stroll, hand in hand, of course, along the piers and waterfront. We have often bumped into local musicians playing among the piers. The wharf and the music make for a perfect place to walk and snuggle after a delicious meal.

Photography Tip: For a dreamy, romantic glow, opt for sunrise or sunset shots along the waterfront or historic streets.

    Lake Tahoe, California/Nevada – A Year-Round Wonderland

Lake Tahoe is a stunner in any season. Whether you’re honeymooning in winter or summer, it’s got something for you:

Winter: Skiing, cozy cabins, and hot cocoa by the fire.

Summer: Kayaking, paddleboarding, and sunset cruises on the lake.

Anytime: Gorgeous mountain views that make for the ultimate romantic escape.

Photography Tip: Capture reflections of the lake in the early morning when the water is still—it creates a dreamy, mirror-like effect.

While you are there, do yourself a favor and buy a special bottle of wine at your favorite vineyard for your first-year anniversary.

Napa Valley, California – Sip, Savor, & Swoon

Wine, rolling vineyards, and luxurious resorts—need we say more? Napa Valley is honeymoon heaven for couples who love a good glass of vino and stunning scenery. Enjoy:

Private wine tastings – Some even include food pairings (yes, please!).

Hot air balloon rides – Start your morning with a dreamy valley view.

Spas and mud baths – Because a honeymoon = ultimate relaxation.

Photography Tip: Vineyard photos at sunset are instant romance. Pro tip: Hold your glasses of wine in the shot for extra aesthetic points.

Tips for Picking Your Perfect Honeymoon Spot

Know Your Vibe – Do you want relaxation, adventure, or a mix of both?

Consider the Season – Weather can make or break your experience.

Budget Wisely – Set a budget for flights, accommodations, and activities.

Think About Photography – Pick a destination with scenic backdrops (because those honeymoon photos last forever!).

Make It Yours – Choose a place that fits your love story, whether a big adventure or a cozy cabin retreat.

No matter where you go, your honeymoon is about celebrating your love (and eating ridiculous amounts of good food). So, pick a place that makes your heart happy, take plenty of pictures, and soak up every second of that just-married glow! Cheers to love and adventure!
